New in Novation Play: Pianos, from pristine to prepared to processed
Our first free soundpack drop for this Launchkey-exclusive virtual instrument brings acoustic piano sounds for any occasion.
Included with every MK4 keyboard, Novation Play is the voice of Launchkey. This virtual instrument comes loaded with sounds sampled from Novation, Sequential, and Oberheim synths, all intuitively mapped to Launchkey’s controls.
Today, we’re expanding Play’s sonic range with our first ever free soundpack drop, packed with presets sampled from two acoustic pianos:
- The Model B is a “classic grand”-sized piano from the revered Steinway & Sons. Often considered the “perfect piano”, the Model B is often chosen by top recording studios for its balanced tone and relatively compact dimensions.
- The Model 122 is an award-winning upright piano from Leipzig-based builder Feurich. Like the Model B, it’s known for exceptional sound relative to its size and has become the best-selling model in Feurich’s range.
Our sound design team spent a great deal of time capturing the essence of these instruments. Under the preset browser’s Piano tab, you’ll find 40 presets based on the pure sound of each piano as well as more unconventional treatments like dampening the strings with felt, rubber, and elastic bands. We’ve also included a selection of creatively processed sounds based on all these configurations.
